"Prickly Places" began in 2006 as an unstructured (though deliberate) effort to learn black and white landscape photography, after years spent focusing on painting and drawing. The images created during that year formed what I would consider my first coherent body of photographic work. Though my work has evolved significantly since that time, in 2011 I had the idea to revisit those first images, to create an altogether new work from old raw material. I re-edited the original series, throwing out some old favorites, and adding in some outtakes, as well as producing a handful of new photos and drawings.

The resulting book is intended to impose a (very) loose narrative on the images, while drawing the reader inside a vivid (though fictional) setting from a first person perspective. This book is now available for purchase online.
